What a beautiful idea: 5% off your bill if you ditch your phone while you’re eating.

Distracted dining. It's a thing.

That’s all.

Some place in L.A. called Eva Restaurant. They give you a discount if you give them your phone before you sit down. To fight “distracted dining.”

Here’s the owner talking:

For us, it’s really not about people disrupting other guests. Eva is home, and we want to create that environment of home, and we want people to connect again,” he told KPCC. “It’s about two people sitting together and just connecting, without the distraction of a phone, and we’re trying to create an ambiance where you come in and really enjoy the experience and the food and the company.”

Just: great idea. We all know we’re addicted and we need to stop, but we can’t help sneaking a glance at the screen while our date is talking. This totally makes the restaurant a memorable experience without adding one damn thing to what they were already doing.

Five stars.

Tell Yelp.

Then put the phone away.

  1. What the heck kind of terrible writing is this? You should make every single word into its own paragraph. Then you’d really be cool.
